  1. 1. Was your home built and occupied before 2021?

The property must have been built and occupied before 31 December 2020.

  2. 2. Is it your primary residence (or will it be after works)?

Second homes and rentals have separate schemes.

  3. 3. Are you willing to complete a Home Energy Assessment (BER)?

SEAI requires a Technical Assessment before install and a new BER after.

  4. 4. Will you use an SEAI-registered installer?

Alchemy's installer network is fully SEAI-registered.

  5. 5. Have you not previously claimed an SEAI heat pump grant on this property?

The grant is available once per property.

The 5-step application flow

From first assessment to grant payment — a typical timeline is 3–5 months.

  1. 1. Technical Assessment

An SEAI-registered assessor visits your home to confirm the property meets heat-loss requirements. Typically €200–€350, refunded €200 by SEAI on grant approval.

  2. 2. Grant application

Apply online at seai.ie. Approval usually takes 4–6 weeks. Do not start works until you receive written approval.

  3. 3. Book the install

Once approved, book your Alchemy installer via /book-installation. A typical retrofit takes 2–4 days on site.

  4. 4. Post-works BER

A new BER is completed after the install to confirm energy performance improvements.

  5. 5. Grant paid

SEAI transfers €6,500 directly to your bank account within 4–6 weeks of works sign-off.

Frequently asked

Do I pay the full price upfront?
Yes — you pay the installer directly. SEAI reimburses €6,500 within 4–6 weeks after works sign-off.
What BER do I need to reach?
A minimum post-works BER of B2, plus a heat-loss indicator below a threshold set by the assessor. Most 1990s+ homes meet this after cavity insulation + heat pump.
Can I combine grants?
Yes — heat pump grant stacks with insulation, solar PV and window grants (subject to SEAI caps). Our team can advise on sequencing.
